Canada Post is kicking off the new year with an increase to its stamp prices. According to the Toronto Sun, this is the fourth stamp price increase in six years, and in the last two years alone, increases in rates have raised $35 million.

The Crown corporation has announced that postage rates will rise on January 13, with the price for stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane for domestic Lettermail items weighing 30 grams or less increasing to $0.92, up from $0.90. As well, the price of a single domestic stamp will increase to $1.07, up from $1.05.

While usage varies, Canada Post estimates the impact of the price increases to be about $6 a year for the typical small business and “well under” a dollar a year for the average Canadian household. Prices will also increase for mail to the U.S. and international destinations, and for domestic Registered Mail.
