Rick Nichols, President and CEO of Goss International, today announced a transformation of Goss’ business and a reorganization of the company. The move comes with news that Goss International France has entered insolvency proceedings via a judicial process.
Goss states that its subsidiaries outside of France are not affected by this procedure and continue to operate as normal. The company plans to bring its existing operations in Europe in line as one unified, pan-continental sales and service organization. Goss is to reorganize around what it refers to as regional service and support centres.
“The markets to drive our future growth and profitability are shifting,” stated Nichols, who became CEO of Goss nine months ago. “We have decades of offset printing expertise. That gives us a significant advantage not just in our core newspaper and commercial printing sectors, but in other industries like packaging and emerging printing industries as well. Together, these are the reasons why we are transforming as a company.”
Goss, while continuing to support its core markets, plans to diversify into what the company describes as “new, neighboring product markets where it has a technological competitive advantage.” Over the past few years, the company has invested its R&D into the packaging sector with its Vpak presses.
“The needs of our customers have shifted over recent years as our industry environment as a whole has changed,” stated Nichols. “Today, customers tell us they need a focus on simple, easy to use and cost effective technology supported by world class aftermarket services. Goss continues to manufacture the highest quality print machinery, but I believe that where and how quickly customers can access service and support is now more important than where products are manufactured.”
In June 2010, Shanghai Electric Group of China took 100 percent ownership of Goss International, after becoming its majority owner in June 2009. Shanghai Electric also owns the Akiyama sheetfed press manufacturing entity, best known for its Jprint line, which Goss began to distribute in North America in 2010.
Shanghai Electric is one of the largest diversified equipment manufacturing groups in China, with more than 60 primary manufacturing sites and more than 40,000 employees. Goss and SEG have been working together in China since 1993.
