Ellis Packaging installs CPS 12-station press at Pickering facility

This past July, Ellis Packaging began the installation of a new, custom-made 12-station press from CPS Canadian Primoflex Systems at its Pickering facility. The machine was fully up and running by late September.
Cathie Ellis, president of Ellis Packaging, said the press was purchased as an addition to the company’s other primographic press, which is used to run high-quality work that is printed, die-cut, cold foiled and embossed inline in a single pass. Ellis Packaging went with this particular press to increase its capacity for “beautifully embellished cartons with consistent colour quality.” The company chose to partner with a Canadian manufacturer that understood its needs and requirements.
The new press has a very extensive inline inspection system that guarantees cartons are perfect and consistent, run-to-run. It can run up to 10 colours, and can add decorative features such as cold foil and holographic effects.
“The addition of this machine has enabled us to keep up with a greater demand of consumer products, which had increased during COVID,” said Ellis.
In addition, Ellis is thankful for the fact that the machine was manufactured locally, in Cambridge, Ont. “This machine was purchased pre-COVID, but it truly turned out to be a blessing that we were dealing with a local manufacturer that was able to take care of our installation without having to deal with both government and border restrictions,” she added.
