Mountain View Printing predicts revenue growth to double with new installs

October 3, 2018  By PrintAction Staff

Calgary, Alberta-based Mountain View Printing & Graphics Ltd. says it expects to double its revenue over the next five years, a result of its recent acquisition of two new Xerox digital presses.

Mountain View Printing has purchased a Xerox Brenva HD Production Inkjet Press, intended to streamline production and introduce new pricing flexibility, and a Xerox Iridesse Production Press, designed to produce unique spot embellishments and metallic hues.

“We want to be at the forefront of the technology and the leaders in our market,” said B.J. Chandler, one of two owners of Mountain View Printing, along with Gary Park. “Since the oil crisis, our sales have stayed pretty much even, and this year we started growing again. We’re up 23 percent over last year and we look forward to continuing that upward trend with our new Brenva HD and Iridesse.”

Founded in 1985, Mountain View Printing & Graphics Ltd. is a privately held commercial printer with more than 30 employees. It generates more than $5 million in annual revenues through digital, offset, wide-format and specialty printing, as well as design, mail, warehouse, fulfillment and project management services.

The team says it chose the Brenva HD press to gain the cost and productivity benefits of high-speed inkjet printing with the substrate flexibility of a cut-sheet press. A key application is training manuals, which have been produced by overprinting offset shells on a Xerox Nuvera 144 EA Production System. Xerox explains that with the Brenva HD, the manuals can now be produced entirely on white paper, helping to cut costs and turnaround time.

Mountain View Printing also expects to develop new business with the Brenva HD for higher volume direct-mail and personalized print, for moving monochrome work to colour at a small premium and for offering more cost-effective full-colour printing.

Meanwhile, the commercial printer says it chose the Iridesse because of the unique special effects it can produce. The press has a six-toner-station configuration that combines four-colour CMYK printing with up to two specialty dry inks including gold, silver, clear or white. The press was installed at Mountain View Printing in late June.

The firm already offers metallic foils and digital gold and silver metallics on its Xerox Color 1000i Press and already has a stable of customers for print embellishments. To promote the Iridesse capabilities, the Mountain View Printing design team is developing samples that showcase metallic mixes, a self-produced direct-mail piece, and an open house, which is in the early planning stages.

“With a large and diverse customer base that includes airlines, grocery stores, secondary schools, political parties, as well as oil and gas enterprises, Mountain View Printing depends on Xerox to provide the support and technology to cost effectively produce a wide variety of applications,” said Mike Feldman, President, North America Operations, Xerox. “Our goal is to help our customers grow their businesses and Mountain View Printing is a tremendous example of that.”

In addition to the two new Xerox presses, Mountain View Printing currently has a Xerox Versant 80 Press in addition to its Color 1000i Press and Nuvera 144. The company also uses XMPie software for variable information printing.
