On the Mark IV, stitch length, balance adjustment, and thickness settings can all be changed automatically from booklet to booklet during operation for true variable booklet production. The sheet-alignment section features four-directional jogging.

The Mark IV can run at speeds of up to 6,000 booklets per hour for A4 portrait applications and 5,300 booklets per hour for A4 landscape applications. The Mark IV also features customizable machine status indicator lights.

Plockmatic Group’s inline platform introduces architecture that enables new features for the first time in the low-to-mid volume market segments across Konica Minolta’s AccurioPress mono and colour production machines. The inline versions of the SD-435/450 will be exclusively sold by Konica Minolta throughout 2022.

The new system architecture enables customers to produce high-quality booklets including 8.5 x 11 in. landscape and has all the key processes needed to produce corner and edge staple, folding, spine forming and full bleed trimming, all combined in one single, easy-to-use system.

Battlefield’s management and operational team see a multitude of positive gains with the arrival of the new Omega Allpro 70. Jerry Theoret, president and CEO of Battlefield Press, notes the new folder gluer’s overall speeds (both setup and run) will be a welcome addition to its efficiencies in gluing, and the additional capacity will allow Battlefield to better schedule its mixed product range.

“Packaging has been a growing part of our business and represents a larger segment than it did before. With this in mind, we decided the Omega Allpro 70 will be the best solution for Battlefield based on our current needs,” says Theoret.

Braintree Printing, a trade printer in Braintree, Mass., needed a higher throughput cutter to handle the challenges of its 20-hour production days. The company that specializes in “crazy fast turnaround times” selected the new POLAR 115 from Heidelberg to replace an aging cutter.

“We are very deadline oriented and make tight delivery commitments. We can’t afford any downtime, so we need our equipment to be up and running when our finishing crew arrives at 6:00 a.m. to finish the work that was printed the previous day. Our current POLAR cutter has always been extremely reliable, so we knew we would have the same experience with the new 115 as well,” said Jim Corliss, marketing manager at Braintree Printing.

Equipped with offset and digital capabilities, Braintree Printing’s POLAR 115 complements its already extensive bindery capabilities, which includes die cutting, perfect binding, and its existing POLAR 78.

According to Corliss, “While there are less expensive cutters on the market, the POLAR 115 is far more productive, worry-free, and longer lasting than its competitors, so our total cost of ownership is actually lower than it would be with other machines.”

Also needing a more productive finishing solution, Peczuh Printing in Price, Utah, installed a new Stahlfolder Ti 36from Heidelberg to better service the growing pharmaceutical and nutraceutical side of its business. The Ti 36 is designed for small-formats and miniature folding applications, such as mini-booklets or packaging inserts for pharmaceutical products. Replacing an older Stahlfolder, the new Ti 36 began running live jobs in Peczuh’s facility a mere two days after the machine arrived at its facility, and the plant’s operators immediately noticed improvements.

“Our operators are no longer frustrated at the end of the day. Now they’re excited about the new technology and have started testing the machine’s boundaries to see how far they can push it,” said Frank Peczuh, owner of Peczuh Printing.

Committed to a vibrant, healthy future for the printing industry, Peczuh Printing prides itself on continuously taking care of its customers “once they have invited us in.” The new Stahlfolder purchase helps achieve this goal through“enhanced efficiency, better quality folding, and faster turnaround times.” With an increasing demand for this specialized small-format folding, Peczuh also sees its capabilities with the new Ti 36 as growth potential for the company.

“The new feeder system with the Adaptive Process Control that monitors sheet feeding in a closed loop process is outstanding. This allows for the widest range of media handling and can adjust on the fly by monitoring the paper float zone. The intuitive user interface allows for operators of all skill levels to run jobs from the alpha-numeric memory with ease,” said Stephen Longmire, national sales manager at Sydney Stone.

The AutoCreaser Pro XL can run at a maximum of 8,500 A4 sheets per hour, with no loss of accuracy. It accepts sheets sized at 385mm x 1300mm with the table extension, which comes as standard with this new machine.

The AutoCreaser Pro XL can be linked to the AutoFold Pro, an automatic folding system for the professional printer, to provide a more complete finishing solution. The AutoFold Pro was designed for folding digital stocks and uses the patented “Flying Knife” technology developed to prevent scuffing and marking on digital stocks.

The AutoCreaser Pro range includes rotary perforation as standard, with a wide variety of wheels available. An optional cross-perforating unit can be added for more complex jobs, including multiple perforation layouts.

The Ecoline FM is designed to produce flat masks for general frontline workers, manufacturing and the public, with an advanced version providing an end-to-end production line for medical masks typically worn by nurses and doctors.

“Both Ecoline FM machines will help traditional label printers and other niche market manufacturers respond to spiraling demand for general and medical face masks by diversifying into mask production,” said Marco Aengenvoort, managing director of Rotocontrol. “It’s an opportunity to utilize their production expertise and quickly expand their manufacturing infrastructure already in place.”

The machine can produce up to 110 masks per minute. Three layers of material are first laminated, folded and seamed. A crimping tool then ultrasonically welds the two sides of the seal while a die-cutting tool cuts and forms the side seal. Finally, the mask is conveyed to two earlobe string welding stations and then on to the assembly line for collection.

The advanced version features high-tech ultrasonic welding technology, with a line consisting of automatic feeding of reel and nose clip, mask body formation with ultrasonic assembly, automatic assembly, automatic folding and welding of mask, die cut and finished product ejection and waste removal.

The product also includes support for up to six layers of non-woven cloth rolls, automatic tension control of raw materials, ensuring balanced tension, and ergonomic design.

An operator using the Stahlfolder CH 56 KT enters a new job on the touchscreen for the front edge stop in the cross-fold unit to automatically move into position. The buckle plate and folding rollers are set to the right format and substrate weight. This is significant automation, Heidelberg explains, when setting up small folding jobs.

In one hour, Heidelberg states the Stahlfolder CH 56 KT machine can complete five repeat folding jobs of 500 to 1,000 copies each. It can be integrated with options like two types of feeders and four or six buckle plates in the parallel folding unit.

MBO America announced the North American launch of its new K8 RS combi-folder, first introduced last fall at an open-house event in Oppenweiler, Germany.

The company describes its K8 RS combi-folder as “the world’s fastest folding machine.” With production speeds of up to 275 metres per minute, the K8 RS represents a 20 percent speed increase over MBO’s previous K8 Perfection folder. The new machine is described as allowing for 1:1 printing to folding production, based on its ability to better match the speeds of today’s modern sheetfed presses.
 
“The K8 RS defies description in this market segment,” stated Lance Martin, MBO America Director of Sales, who points most predominantly to the increased speed of the K8’s drive motor. “Along with the improved drive system, the Vaculift infeed system was re-engineered for increased performance, and an intelligent sheet control monitoring system has been equipped on all K8 RS machines to ensure that the paper is always under control at these speeds.”
 
Like its predecessors, the K8 RS can be outfitted with variations of the S-KTL and S-KTZ cross-fold units, as well as an automation package to improve make-ready times.

The company states the machine, which integrates folder and cutter, is well suited for continuous-feed applications and producing variable-data direct mail pieces in one pass. The system also includes a slide-away register table, so the folder can be operated off-line when the print engine is idle or delivering stacked output to the high capacity stacker.

A new Standard Hunkeler FM6 Plow Fold/Web Merge Module is also set to premier at PRINT 09. This system combines plow folding and slit merging in one module, with integrated perforating wheels. The web is folded or merged and then cut into sheets by the CS6-II, featuring double-cut—or chip-out—for full-bleed documents.
